Alcoholics Anonymous Step 2.

59:92. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

In Bill’s Story, Page 12, Sentences 9-19, Bill W. describes how realizing that he could choose his own conception of God removed his intellectual barrier to belief.

12:9My friend suggested what then seemed a novel idea. 10He said, "Why don't you choose your own conception of God?"

11That statement hit me hard. 12It melted the icy intellectual mountain in whose shadow I had lived and shivered many years. 13I stood in the sunlight at last.

14It was only a matter of being willing to believe in a power greater than myself. 15Nothing more was required of me to make my beginning. 16I saw that growth could start from that point. 17Upon a foundation of complete willingness I might build what I saw in my friend. 18Would I have it? 19Of course I would!
